A partial panorama at South Point, on the Big Island of Hawaii. South Point is the southernmost spot of the 50 states. Because it's the tip of the Hawaiian chain of islands, there are fierce currents and high winds most of the year. (A big wind farm is alongside the road to South Point.) Also in South Point are ruins of an ancient Hawaiian settlement. Somewhere along this coast is where the early settlers from the South Pacific, the original Hawaiians, first made landfall.
