A full 360° panorama of Whitney, Oregon. This "ghost" town was a lumber milling center for Northeastern Oregon. The Sumpter Valley Narrow-gauge Railroad, which, until the mid-1940s transported lumber and passengers from Baker City to Prairie City, went through this small mountain community. For a while, my mother lived with her grandparents in a converted boxcar that rested on a siding near the mill. Life was hard, with scorching summers and freezing winters, but the experience was one to remember.
